GET INSPIRED

Feeling like your closet is more on the ‘Ho-Hum’ side these days? Here are a few things you can do to break out of your fashion funk and get you back in your groove.

  1. HIT THE BOOKS Curious about a closet concept like Minimal or Maximalism? Wondering how Pantone’s color of the year can work into your wardrobe? Read a book or pick up a magazine. For those of you interested in the Capsule Wardrobe idea, Sarah Eliza Louderback’s Secrets of the Capsule Wardrobe is an easy read and very informative.PJA-Rainbow-Wall-August(3of10)
  2. CLEAN YOUR FREAKING CLOSET Pull everything out (yes, everything) and sort them into three piles. The things you wear on a daily basis go back in the closet, things you’re not sure about into a pile, and the last pile is reserved for things to give away or recycle. Do you notice a common color palette in your wear pile? Is there a certain silhouette that is just not flattering in the cast offs? After editing your closet, it won’t be hard to sort the pieces I love from the pieces adding bulk.PJA-Tobi-Dresses-102917-36
  3. TALK TO A STRANGER Someone in your office have a cool new bag? See a tourist wearing a cute pair of shoes? Tell them! Ask them where they got that cool thing you’re lusting after. Chances are they have a story behind it or some tips on where to find something similar. And if anything else, you’ll make a new stylish friend you can ask to take you shopping (pretty please!).PJA-Tobi-Dresses-102917-14
  4. SAY NO TO FAST FASHION I’ve made the decision to banish fast fashion from my style vocabulary (more on that in a future post). I know how tempting it is to snap up a trendy top or dress for $5 – $15, but you’ll be paying more in the long run. Try mixing and matching things you already have, borrow something from your bestie or SO, or better yet, host a swap party with your friends. Need to buy something ASAP? Invest in timeless pieces from sustainable brands. Take re/make‘s Wallet Guide on your next shopping trip.

OH HI, NEW YEAR

It’s been quite a year, hasn’t it? Full of ups, downs, and all things in between.

Contrary to popular belief, I think 2016 has been very good year. However, I am looking forward to a fresh start and 2017 is looking very promising. Here’s a few things I did and will do at the start of the new year to set me up for a better tomorrow.

The morning routine For the past couple days, I’ve been instituting my own version of the Miracle Morning. Waking up at 5:30 (yes, AM), 6 mins of meditation, and a short yoga session helps me get my day off on the right foot.

If you’re looking to reboot your morning routine, I love Rebecca Campbell’s light sourcing guided meditation and Asana Rebel’s app has a couple quick practices to get your Om on in 6 mins or less.

Pamper myself To honor my physical body, I’ve taken more time to take care of me. From getting my bangs trimmed to a yoga class at my favorite studio to a luxurious bath with my favorite Lush bath products. A little pampering is a great way to show yourself love and compassion.

Clean and prep Of course, I have to do a few less luxurious things to get 2017 off on the right foot. Groceries, laundry, cleaning & straightening are just a few of the must-dos on my list.Today, I’m tackling a big project: going through the junk from under our bed.

If you need a little inspiration to start your own new year cleaning spree, I highly recommend Marie Kondo’s Life Changing Magic of Tidying Up.

Dance more My man got us tickets to see Sleater – Kinney on NYE and I couldn’t have imagined a better way to ring in the new year. Connecting with people I’m closest with, imbibing (just a little), and dancing around like a mad woman while Carrie and Corin sang me home.

There’s always a reason to celebrate and I’m making a mental note to dance much more in the new year!

How do you plan on making 2017 a better year?

So glad I stumbled upon illustraitor Amy Watkinez’s Instagram. This cute piñata print gave me a good chuckle! 3. How do I get my hands on this fringed light fixture?  4. I’ve been a little obsessed with smoothie bowls recently and I can’t wait to try some of these tasty recipes!
